Assisted Living Partnership

Our Mission

At LifeBack Counseling Center, we specialize in providing on-site emotional and spiritual support for residents navigating grief, loss, and major life transitions within assisted living, independent living, and senior community environments.

Our mission is to come alongside both residents and facility staff to enhance whole-person care, reduce emotional isolation, and strengthen community culture through structured, relationship-centered support.

What We Provide

Our partnership offers a consistent, professionally facilitated grief support program designed to:

  • Normalize grief experiences

  • Create peer connection and reduce isolation

  • Provide emotional coping strategies

  • Encourage meaning-making and hope

  • Offer compassionate presence in a safe group setting

Programs are conducted on-site, require no additional staffing from the facility, and integrate seamlessly into existing community life.

Program Overview

A standard partnership includes:

  • 4 support group sessions per month

  • 1 hour per session

  • On-site at your facility

  • Led by a LifeBack Mental Health Coach

Our groups are appropriate for residents walking through:

  • Loss of a spouse or long-time partner

  • Family member loss

  • Major health or identity transitions

  • Life adjustment stresses (e.g., relocation, retirement)

  • Emotional or spiritual grief

Residents who desire additional one-on-one support may also pursue private counseling directly with the facilitator outside group hours, with no financial or administrative burden to the facility

LifeBack facilitators are trained in grief, trauma, and senior support.

One of our primary facilitators, Jeff Lander, brings more than 30 years as a firefighter, specialized credentialing through Light University as a Military and First Responder Mental Health Coach, and focused training in older adult and elderly support Jeff’s trauma-informed, faith-based approach is deeply rooted in compassion, steadiness, and respect — qualities that create emotional safety for residents processing loss and transition.

 Resident Feedback

Our previous pilot demonstrated meaningful emotional benefit among participants.
“I was wallowing in grief and misery with no real hope or sense of direction until I joined the group… I now have a positive outlook for the future and know that I will survive and be happy again.”

— John House, Ph.D., Resident at Somerby Independent Living

Our Heart Behind the Work

Aging is a sacred season, and loss is a universal human experience. We believe no one should navigate grief alone — especially in their later years. Our calling is to create a safe place for residents to grieve honestly, connect meaningfully, and move forward with dignity, belonging, and hope.
